We can do better! Why should a poor person be victimized by powerful people who can afford high-priced lawyers? It’s no different than the plight of poor people who lack access to quality medicine because they lack health insurance.
Since access to legal representation is a right, we should alleviate this injustice the same way we did health care. Force everyone in the country to purchase legal insurance, or have the IRS fine them. Create marketplaces in each state where people can purchase legal insurance. Create a government run insurance plan that’s just available to seniors, and use the market dominance of that plan to set rates and regulations for the entire legal industry — hourly billing rates, settlement splitting etc.
I’m being facetious, of course. Lawyers are like medieval knights, just mercenaries really, that offer their services to clients to help them take from others, and then defend those same clients when the others try and take back what was lost. Naming this process “justice” is probably the most successful branding campaign in history.
