The author claims it’s a stagnant, lifeless society that isn’t growing because it doesn’t renew itself with immigrants. But just take a look at this graph:

— that compares US and Japanese per-capita growth during the Clinton, Bush and Obama years. They’re about the same. Japan grew just as fast as the US did, but unlike the US, the gains benefited Japanese only, and were not shared with immigrants.
